Rated as one of the finest animal parks, the Boissière du Doré zoo, stretching across an area of 19 hectares, transports you into a wild and exotic world. Because of its location in an old chestnut grove, the park is naturally wooded and tranquil with a general atmosphere that lets you enjoy a quiet stroll through its profuse and wonderful vegetation!
The team of devoted zookeepers will ensure that you discover a whole range of animals from all 5 continents. Go and discover a world of incredible wildlife, where you can watch the animals enjoying their great summer feasts at feeding time – a very moving experience indeed! Of all Europe’s zoos, Boissière du Doré has the largest family of orang-utans, lorded over by Major, the tribe’s oldest member. Having reached the astonishing age of 48, he’s regarded as patriarch by the other animals in his family and is the world’s oldest orang-utan still capable of fathering off-spring! You can also visit the area where primates live in semi-freedom – you’ll find this another really moving experience.
All the animals on the mini-farm get very excited when they see you and can’t wait for you to cuddle them. Spend a few moments getting to know our baby giraffes and discover our brand-new 2010 feature - Iguazu Park, a replica of an Amazonian forest covering 2,000 m2! In this area, feast your eyes on an astonishing variety of reptiles and birds as well as colonies of armadillos, margays and small monkeys - some surprisingly lively and others a bit on the lazy side! Meeting our family of gorillas will leave fabulous memories in your mind. Go on a foreign journey as you explore our two African plains stretching out across 8 hectares. Its local residents include giraffes, ostriches, antelopes, gnus…and zebras on big wooden walkways, one of which is more than 300 m long!
